Editorial Policy
These are the standards behind everything Nesswick publishes. They’re here so readers know how the site works — and so they can hold Nesswick to those standards.
- Help first, monetize second. Every page should be genuinely useful even if the reader never buys anything. If a page’s only reason to exist would be to sell something, it should not be published.
- Free options come first. For many of the topics Nesswick covers, there is a free or built-in first step — such as freezing credit, using built-in device controls, opting out of a data broker directly, or choosing a strong free password manager. Nesswick leads with those options and explains when a paid product may not be necessary.
- Commissions never control recommendations. Some links may earn Nesswick a commission, but commissions do not decide what is recommended, how tools are ranked, or what is said about them. This is explained fully in the Affiliate Disclosure.
- Experience and evidence stay separate. When a recommendation is based on hands-on testing, Nesswick states what was tested and when. When a page relies on independent research, official product information, or editorial judgment, that distinction is stated clearly. Outside findings must never be presented as Nesswick’s own testing.
- Limitations are explained honestly. No product can keep a family completely safe, guarantee that identity theft or scams will not occur, or permanently remove all personal information from the internet. Nesswick explains what tools may help with and what they cannot guarantee.
- No fear and no pressure. Nesswick does not use scare tactics, manipulative urgency, or alarming claims to push readers toward a purchase — especially when discussing children, seniors, fraud, or identity theft. Risks should be explained calmly alongside practical steps.
- Plain English and real sources. Nesswick explains topics in everyday language. When a page relies on research, government guidance, standards, audits, or official product information, the relevant sources should be identified. Nesswick does not provide personalised legal, financial, medical, or cybersecurity advice.
- Mistakes are corrected. When something is wrong, Nesswick corrects it and notes meaningful changes. See Corrections & Updates.
- Clear editorial accountability. Nesswick is a small, independent editorial organization, not an anonymous content farm. Pages should identify their evidence basis, update status, and editorial responsibility clearly. Readers can learn more on the About and How We Test pages.
